Chapter 1427: Northern Meeting
Stargaze Family.
The northern lords had been successfully assembled by their efforts. However, it looked like they were quite concerned about what was happening in this kingdom.
All of them were staring at Tristan and Dylan.
One noble said, "We have to take action right away!"
Another noble came forth. "I know you are trying to stall time for your teacher. While I can respect your decision, is this what Marquis Ardagan really wants?"
They were being pressured to stop this meeting and just headed to the central government and fought for their shares.
Tristan and Dylan exchanged looks. Dylan couldn’t help but sigh, knowing that this was unstoppable even before he assembled this meeting.
Meanwhile, Tristan had prepared a trump card up his sleeve. He couldn’t help but recall how the conversation reached this point.
...
A few minutes ago.
The lords had gathered in the Marquis Stargaze territory. To show their sincerity, Tristan actually used the airship he brought to become the meeting venue.
In other words, this was the first meeting ever held in the sky. At first, the lords looked excited because participating in this meeting alone would give them some prestige. After all, they were one of the lords who were invited to make that history.
That was why the first topic Tristan brought up the moment they calmed down was the airship itself.
"Thank you for coming all the way here." Tristan smiled. "I’m sure that you have read the letter and know where this conversation is going.
"And yes, this will become the first airship you can get your hands on. In other words, the Runegard company is willing to sell this airship."
All the nobles looked serious. They were indeed coming for this airship. If they got ahold of this airship, their prestige in the north would reach a whole new level. Just imagining how they were able to visit another territory by descending from the sky alone could make people admire them.
That was why the airship was extremely important to the northern lords. However, if Tristan thought he could control the northern lords with just an airship, then he was wrong.
Although they were united under the banner of the Ardagan family, they never pledged their allegiance to Noel. They were merely in one big alliance.
Why would they enter this alliance? The answer was pretty simple. While the demon was indeed concerning, they simply believed joining this alliance would bring them benefits, from roads to even this airship.
This belief remained in their heart due to Noel’s powerful strength. And this time, there was even a bigger benefit right in front of them.
The nobles around the royal palace were able to run rampant because of the backing of the royal family.
In this kind of turmoil, if they supported a prince or a princess and made that person the sovereign, they could basically get the kingdom itself. Having a puppet king or queen was not that uncommon.
Compared to the north, having access to the entire kingdom was much more interesting.
That was why the northern lords looked at Tristan with judging gazes. Although they had heard Tristan’s reputation, he was, in the end, a mere disciple.
No matter how talented he was, Tristan was nowhere near Noel. After all, in their eyes, Noel was simply monstrous, whether it was his strength or his political maneuvers. The reason they came here was mostly because of their respect for Noel.
Still, if that was enough to sway them and force them to follow this charade, Tristan was in for a surprise.
One lord stepped forward, saying, "I’d like to express my gratitude for receiving the honor of being here. However, Young Lord Tristan... All of us know that auctioning the airship is nothing but a charade.
"I’m sure that the Ardagan family already knows about the news related to the death of the second prince.
"If he wasn’t, Marquis Ardagan would have been here personally. That’s why the airship might be interesting, but let us begin the adult talk, shall we?"
Another noble nodded in agreement. "We have to take action right away!"
"I know you’re trying to buy time, but have we lost the trust of Marquis Ardagan? He doesn’t even tell us anything about this. Or maybe... the Marquis is planning to swallow everything by himself?"
If there was a discord between the northern lords, it would be disastrous. Even Noel couldn’t predict how the battle against the demon king would flow.
Tristan slightly underestimated these northern lords, but it didn’t mean he was lacking a plan. He simply thought that the northern lords would be playing with him for a little longer instead of going straight to the topic.
Tristan nodded with a serious expression. "I can’t really say much on behalf of my teacher because I personally don’t know my teacher’s plans.
"However, he has told me one thing." Tristan smiled. "I can’t afford to have you go to the central."
"!!!" The northern lords widened their eyes. They were furious. Their fear was true. Noel was so greedy that he didn’t even leave a bite for them.
But before they could say anything, Tristan waved his hand. "Wait. Please allow me to finish my words."
They furrowed their eyebrows, wondering if there was another meaning to his words.
Tristan raised one finger. "The reason for my teacher forbidding you to come to the central is because..."
Tristan paused, which agitated the northern lords.
"Say it! Why are you waiting for so long? Are you trying to make us angry?" One noble gritted his teeth, glaring at Tristan in frustration.
Tristan nodded and asked, "I want to ask a question for every lord here. My master believes in every single one of you. That’s why he forbids all of you to go to the central unless you can give me this answer.
"Are you willing to fight with him for the sake of the kingdom?"
"..." All of them were speechless. The way Tristan worded it was like an alliance instead of asking them to pledge their allegiance to Noel. Instead of being under him, he wanted them to fight with him.
Noel believed in them, so it was time for them to show they could be trusted. After all, in this delicate situation, betrayal would result in a chaotic situation.
The moment they heard this question, all the lords couldn’t answer it right away.
Eventually, one lord stood up and announced out loud, "I, Count Kraenz, am willing to fight alongside Marquis Ardagan."
