Book 2: Chapter 65: The Demon King's Youthful Self

Vol 2 Chapter 65: The Demon King's Youthful Self

Among cultivators, there exists a significant group that views immortality not as a blessing but a curse. Many ancient monsters, having lived far too long, often “go mad” in their twilight years. This “madness” isn’t about losing one’s mind but about losing one’s humanity, growing increasingly indifferent and evolving into something other than human.

The personalities of high-level cultivators, solidified over millennia, often become extreme and eccentric. While some cultivators manage to retain their original nature despite their long lifespans, such individuals remain a rare minority.

Cloud-Hidden Orchid.

This sixth-grade spiritual plant, once consumed, can keep a cultivator’s mind calm even through centuries of secluded meditation. It shields against inner demons, the erosion of time, and negative emotions, with effects lasting a lifetime.

Grand Ancestor Wang Batian mulled over the situation. This item seemed tailor-made for Lin Jing, whose Longevity Body might otherwise lead him to lose his humanity. It would ensure Lin Jing wouldn’t degrade into a shadow of his former self due to his longevity.

“Since you think it’s suitable, perhaps we should consult the other Grand Ancestors as well?” Elder Mo suggested.

Nearby, a Turtle Body True Inheritor crawled out of the Sword Light Formation, his armor and shield transforming back into a Mechanized Armadillo and Mechanical Turtle, respectively. He had clearly employed the Beast-Weaponization Secret Art, turning his pet beasts into magical artifacts. Confused, he stared at Elder Mo, unsure what he had shown Wang Batian to make him change his mind so abruptly.

“He won’t need to compete with you anymore.”

Elder Mo waved his hand, tossing the Genius Rankings list hovering mid-air to the Turtle Body True Inheritor. Staring at the list, the latter froze.

This… is the Genius Rankings?

Indeed, the Grand Ancestors had stated that if a sect disciple could enter the Genius Rankings, it would greatly enhance the sect’s fortune!

“That’s impossible!”

The True Inheritor’s breathing stalled as he spotted Lin Jing’s name on the list.

“Even if all of you True Inheritors worked together, you might not match him alone,” Elder Mo revealed a harsh truth, leaving the Turtle Body True Inheritor struggling to accept it.

Meanwhile, Wang Batian had already transmitted messages to the other Demon King Grand Ancestors.

Previously, not even the Sect Master had placed significant hopes on Lin Jing achieving great progress within a century. Resources were prioritized for the True Inheritors instead. Everyone knew how difficult it was for someone with the Longevity Body to progress. But seeing the new Genius Rankings, Wang Batian realized they had made a grave mistake.

Just as exceptional mortals occasionally appear amidst the multitudes, Lin Jing might very well be a prodigy among those with the Longevity Body!

“Come to me at once.”

At that moment, the various Demon King Grand Ancestors, each engaged in grueling training with their disciples, received the transmission from Wang Batian, the most senior among them.

Moments later, one figure after another descended onto the mountaintop. Among them were a stag-shaped Demon King, an elephant-shaped Demon King, and a bird-shaped Demon King, their demon auras surging skyward.

While these mighty beings gathered, none of them noticed a shadow sneaking into a forbidden area within the Hundred Flower Valley.

“A few minor formations set up by those Demon Kings? Laughable! Nothing can stop me!”

The Divine Pine, in its Pinecone Avatar, slipped into the Beast Taming Sect’s Spiritual Seed Nursery.

“Moonlit Dao Lotus, Violet Heaven Ginseng, Four-Sun Divine Lingzhi, Dawn Dew Flower, Four-Life Exquisite Grass, Eternal Evergreen Vine, Cloud-Hidden Orchid… Such rare treasures! I underestimated this Dead Demon Serpent’s hoard. But it makes sense. These spiritual seeds are precious enough to make it risk everything to seize them.”

The Divine Pine initially held no interest in the Dead Demon Serpent’s treasure. But seeing the variety of spiritual plants, its thoughts shifted. Even for itself, obtaining such plants in a short time would be nearly impossible.

“I could use the Violet Heaven Ginseng as the core and the others as supplements to forge a Thunder Pine Avatar. Cultivating as grass and wood, defying the natural order, will invite tribulation sooner than any human cultivator. Training with lightning techniques would even benefit the heavens.”

“It seems the heavens must pay a price for this ride, haha!”

The Divine Pine Avatar vanished in a flash, reappearing moments later above the Demon King Grand Ancestors.

By now, the Demon King Grand Ancestors had all reviewed the new Genius Rankings, astonished at Lin Jing’s performance.

Though they were demons, their hearts had long grown human after guarding the sect alongside its human cultivators for over a millennium. The Grand Ancestors genuinely wished for the Beast Taming Sect’s legacy to endure.

If Lin Jing had merely been an ordinary Longevity Body, the Grand Ancestors might have compensated him in other ways while focusing resources on others. But with Lin Jing demonstrating unparalleled potential, their hesitation grew.

“He deserves a share,” declared the Elephant Ancestor. “Even if he doesn’t reach Nascent Soul within a century, his talent proves he’s worth more than such constraints!”

“Indeed. I’d argue one share isn’t enough. He should receive all seven spiritual seeds for full cultivation support! Even his Protector should receive additional resources!”

A voice interrupted their agreement, unfamiliar yet commanding.

“Who goes there?!”

The Grand Ancestors looked up, spotting a cracked pinecone gazing down at them.

For a moment, they felt transported into another realm, surrounded by towering grass and wood, staring up at an immense Divine Pine stretching toward the heavens.

“The power of heaven and earth… A Nascent Soul Transformation of Grass and Wood!”

The Grand Ancestors were shaken. A Nascent Soul Transformation cultivator had appeared among them unexpectedly.

“It’s you! You’ve achieved Nascent Soul!”

The Giant Turtle, once a pet beast of the Second Sect Master, stared in disbelief at the Divine Pine.

“Heavenly Pine Ancestor of Tiandu Peak?!” Elder Mo exclaimed, stunned as he witnessed the Divine Pine’s full power for the first time.

“You’re already in the late Nascent Soul stage, Little Turtle. Isn’t it natural that I’ve reached Nascent Soul as well?” The Divine Pine chuckled, glancing at Wang Batian with an air of indulgence, as if regarding a mere child.

At this moment, all present were deeply shocked. None had expected the Divine Pine Guardian Deity of Tiandu Peak to be a Nascent Soul cultivator!

And they recalled… this Divine Pine had accompanied Lin Jing to the academy as his Protector.

Suddenly, everything made sense. Lin Jing’s monstrous growth was no longer a mystery—he had been guided by a Nascent Soul Transformation cultivator!
