Chapter 34: The Sword Cultivator
Inside the Cavern Heaven, the camps were now split into two factions.
From the current situation, the Beast Taming Sect clearly held the upper hand, but the other three weren’t willing to give up easily.
The Silent Swordsman, who had yet to make a move, finally spoke up.
"Enough, I have a sword technique," he said. "If any of you can withstand it, I’ll withdraw. No assistance from the other two."
He took a deep breath, seemingly coming to a decision.
"Fine," Lin Jing agreed.
"If I lose, I’ll withdraw," Lin Jing added, showing fairness.
Upon hearing this, the Blue-robed Scholar and the Violet Flame Alchemist were more than happy to sit back and watch the tigers fight.
After all, disciples of the Heavenly Sword Gate were renowned for their unmatched combat strength. They didn’t believe that a sword cultivator would be weaker than a scholar or an alchemist like themselves.Their hope? Both Lin Jing and the Silent Swordsman would be left badly injured.
"Control the sword with Qi!"
The Silent Swordsman released his Demon-Slaying Sword, which hovered mid-air as if held by an invisible hand.
With a leap, he landed on the flying sword and soared away.
Through his earlier observations, he had calculated the effective range of that strange mechanical contraption.
His flying sword was exceptionally agile and fast, quickly widening the distance between them.
"Flying on a sword... That’s usually something only Foundation Establishment sword cultivators with robust True Essence can achieve," the Blue-robed Scholar murmured, speculating on the swordsman’s identity.
This individual must be one of the top talents in the Outer Sect of the Heavenly Sword Gate—perhaps even the first among them this year!
"He’s likely trying to gain distance before using his flying sword offensively, but..." The Blue-robed Scholar suddenly paused, confused.
While flying, the Silent Swordsman turned his head, then fell silent.
To his surprise, a squirrel was imitating him—Pine Leaf Mouse was flying on a leaf! The creature stood on a flying leaf while holding a Mechanical Bamboo Rifle, aimed steadily at the swordsman as if to prevent any escape.
"You’re using a sword technique. Why are you distancing yourself?" Lin Jing quipped.
The absurdity of the scene left everyone stunned.
A squirrel, not only capable of flying on a leaf but doing so at nearly the same speed as a sword technique!
"Flying Rainbow Sword!"
Frustrated, the Silent Swordsman gritted his teeth and summoned a cyan flying sword, which rose into the air under his control.
"Sword Shadow Technique!"
Another spell followed, splitting the Flying Rainbow Sword into nine sword shadows, each as vivid as the original, making it impossible to discern which was real.
"Go!"
Under the Silent Swordsman’s command, the sword shadows attacked the Pine Leaf Mouse from all directions like streaks of lightning.
Such an all-encompassing assault would be difficult to block entirely, even with the agility of a Mechanical Bamboo Rifle.
In response, Pine Leaf Mouse summoned ten crimson leaves from its storage pouch. Mirroring the sword shadows, the leaves transformed into ten streaks of red light.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
The swords and leaves clashed mid-air, shattering nine sword shadows. One crimson leaf was destroyed by the real Flying Rainbow Sword, but seizing the moment, Pine Leaf Mouse fired its rifle at the real sword.
Boom!
The Flying Rainbow Sword shattered, causing the Silent Swordsman to stagger.
Pine Leaf Mouse and the Silent Swordsman had their first round of combat mid-air, leaving everyone dumbfounded.
"What the h*ll..."
Could a mere Pine Leaf Mouse pull off such feats?
The Beast Taming Sect disciples were flabbergasted.
Back in the Great Wasteland, a sword cultivator in the Qi Refinement stage capable of releasing seven or eight sword qi attacks would already be considered a master. Yet, while this Heavenly Sword Gate disciple was a small monster, their sect's basic spirit beast seemed even more monstrous.
"Forget those novels like My Sword Spirit Wife from Heavenly Sword Gate—bizarre tales are happening right here," Senior Brother Ziran muttered.
"Since when did battle pets become this strong?" The Blue-robed Scholar and Violet Flame Alchemist, who initially thought Lin Jing’s strength lay solely in his mechanical constructs, now realized this Qi Refinement Level 7 Pine Leaf Mouse was capable of dueling a sword cultivator in mid-air.
No wonder the Pine Leaf Mouse insisted on claiming a tree for itself. Suddenly, it all seemed reasonable, despite how nonsensical it was.
"I’m done." After two rounds, the Silent Swordsman was worn out and chose to surrender.
Although he could still fight a few more rounds, he understood that the Pine Leaf Mouse was just a pet—and its Beast Tamer had yet to step in.
"Once I reach Foundation Establishment and forge a Sword Body, I’ll come to the Beast Taming Sect for a rematch," he declared, unwilling to accept defeat to a mere Qi Refinement Level 7 squirrel, even if his sword technique would only reveal its full power post-Foundation Establishment.
The Pine Leaf Mouse gave a dismissive squeak and turned away, its robe fluttering as if to express disdain. It hated wasting its leaves and ammo.
"No matter what, I’ll claim one Green Bodhi Tree," the Silent Swordsman asserted.
Since everyone present was in the Qi Refinement stage, their goal wasn’t to create divine techniques but to refine their existing spells using the Bodhi Trees.
In this context, the Silent Swordsman wasn’t particularly obsessed with the Golden Bodhi Tree.
"I’m not leaving without a tree either!" the Violet Flame Alchemist grumbled, watching as all three trees were claimed.
She produced a pill, holding it up.
"This pill can temporarily grant me the power of Foundation Establishment," she said, her tone threatening.
The others ignored her.
"Hey, say something!" she snapped, turning to Lin Jing. "Beast Tamer, how about we share the Golden Bodhi Tree?"
"You don’t want me to take this pill, do you?"
Lin Jing, rifle in hand, smiled. "Fellow Daoist, if this pill had no side effects, you’d have already taken it."
"Go ahead, take it. After defeating me, will you even have the state of mind to gain enlightenment?"
"Moreover, how can you be sure this pill will guarantee your victory?"
"You practice fire techniques, but..." Lin Jing glanced at the Mechanical Bamboo Turtle beside him. "This construct has a Spirit Gathering Formation engraved on it. Its water techniques are stronger than my rifle, and it has a self-destruct function—ten times more powerful than the previous explosion. Want to gamble?"
"Do you want to perish with me or this turtle?"
"It has no intelligence, fears neither life nor death, and doesn’t need to stay in a state of enlightenment. You wouldn’t want a fight to the death with it, would you?" Lin Jing finished.
The turtle silently stared at the Violet Flame Alchemist, intensifying the pressure.
Fuming, the alchemist backed down. Who would want to die with a mechanical turtle?
Lin Jing wasn’t lying. For two months, he’d spent little time cultivating and more on upgrading the Mechanical Bamboo Turtle and Rifle. He had even engraved a Spirit Gathering Formation—the most universal formation across the continent—into the turtle, enhancing its water-based attacks.
During combat, activating the Spirit Gathering Formation allowed the turtle to gather water spiritual energy faster, unleashing even more powerful water streams.
As for the self-destruct function? Pure bluff. Even if it self-destructed, the blast wouldn’t be that impactful. Lin Jing was betting she’d believe it.
In the world outside, there’s no need to be honest all the time.
Sure enough, after a moment of silence, the Violet Flame Alchemist withdrew her Fire Spirit Pill and said, "Beast Tamer, let me share the Silver Bodhi Tree with your squirrel. I’ll owe you a favor."
Before Lin Jing could respond, Pine Leaf Mouse raised its rifle and aimed it at her. Furious, she stormed off.
