Beast Tamer Ascension

Chapter 45: The Natal Treasure

Chapter 45: The Natal Treasure

A future Holy Son of the Beast Taming Sect with a test subject child under his command—hearing this, the white mouse spirit froze momentarily.

It thought deeply about the proposition.

After two trial experiences, though terrified at first, it realized neither had caused lasting harm to it. The only reason it had been so frightened was the ominous demeanor of this great monster.

Looking back, during the first test, it had transformed into a bone dragon, frightening the great monster instead. In the second, it spat out an invisible black flame that similarly scared the great monster.

Reflecting on these abilities, the white mouse spirit found them incredibly powerful. If becoming a test subject child meant gaining such capabilities, perhaps it wasn’t such a bad deal!

Just as it was about to agree, believing this to be a great opportunity, a sudden pang struck its heart. The black chili pepper hadn’t been spicy when it entered, just bitterly unpleasant. But after a few seconds, an overwhelming heat surged through its body, as though its soul were being roasted by ghostfire. The white mouse spirit convulsed on the spot, its eyes bloodshot, and dark red tears—possibly blood—streamed from its eyes.

“Sssss!” It desperately called for water. Its steps grew unsteady, as if an invisible weight dragged it down, and even its form seemed distorted by the fiery pain.

Seeing this, Elder Black Bear took a cautious step back. “I knew it! Your creations can’t possibly have no side effects on the eater. Look, you’ve got your test subject bawling from the spiciness.”

The Pine Leaf Mouse, unwilling to let the white mouse die from the heat, pulled out a mechanical water gun from its pack.

“But your water flow settings are too limited. Its pressure might be ineffective,” Lin Jing stopped it and instead produced a more advanced mechanical bamboo turtle.

The bamboo turtle crawled forward at a deliberate pace, and a gentle stream of water for nourishing spiritual plants spouted from its nozzle. The white mouse immediately opened its mouth wide to drink.

It took a long while before the white mouse finally recovered. Dazed, it glanced at the Black Bear Monster, signaling that this opportunity might be too overwhelming for it to handle.

Its life was short; it just wanted to go home.

“Spineless!” The Black Bear Monster snorted and blew the white mouse away with a gust of black wind. “Go back and think it over. I’ll give you another chance to decide next time.”

After sending the white mouse off, the Black Bear Monster patted Lin Jing’s shoulder. “Forget about the chili peppers. I’ll find you a suitable beast flame for alchemy.”

With that, it turned and left.

Lin Jing glanced at the Pine Leaf Mouse. “When will your Immortal Eyes come with an identification function?”

The Pine Leaf Mouse said nothing, instead pulling out its red leaves, determined to practice the Flying Leaf Technique and secure its place in the family annals.

“Fine.” Since ghostfire alchemy was prohibited, Lin Jing decided to start with mundane flames. Though the success rate would be low, the worst-case scenario was wasting some basic materials. But seeing the Pine Leaf Mouse's resolve to train, he chose to accompany it instead.

The Thousand Transformations Illusions was equally crucial. To enhance the Pine Leaf Mouse's control over the leaves, they needed to fortify its mental strength. Without delay, Lin Jing transformed into one of the Pine Leaf Mouse's ancestral predators—a towering, ten-meter-tall giant weasel!

Also known as Huang Dashian or Yellow Weasel!

Draped in massive, flowing yellow robes, it emanated an aura that blanketed the skies with overwhelming authority.

“Ah!!!” Upon completion of the transformation, the Pine Leaf Mouse froze momentarily before emitting a sharp, piercing shriek akin to ultrasonic waves. The sound disrupted its brain, leaving it unable to think or react.

Flooded with chaotic thoughts, its bloodline stirred up ancient fears of predators that had been preserved over countless generations. Overwhelmed by this primal terror, the Pine Leaf Mouse instinctively reached into its storage pouch and pulled out a mechanical bamboo rifle, aiming it at Lin Jing.

“What the—what are you doing?!” Lin Jing was startled, quickly using their contract to suppress the Pine Leaf Mouse's actions, fearing it might actually shoot him.

He wasn’t as resilient as those Snow Plains Cultivators; even a single Spiritual Bean could kill him.

Once restrained by the contract, the Pine Leaf Mouse's eyes cleared somewhat. Lin Jing sighed. “I only unleashed a Foundation Establishment level aura, and you’re already scared stiff? Your willpower is weak! If it had been the aura of a beast king targeting you, wouldn’t you have fainted on the spot?”

“Squeak squeak squeak!” The Pine Leaf Mouse unloaded the rifle's magazine, insisting that it hadn’t been scared. Its mouth, at least, remained resolute.

“Regardless, your weapon is confiscated,” Lin Jing declared. “Relying on firepower to face your fears won’t help temper your resolve.”

“Only when you can remain calm and composed, even unarmed, in the face of absolute terror, will you succeed.”

“For the next few days, whether you’re sleeping or training, I’ll occasionally transform into a monster to appear before you.”

Watching Lin Jing take away its storage bag, the Pine Leaf Mouse’s face fell.

---

Over the next few days, Lin Jing focused on practicing the Illusionary Path, frequently transforming into creatures that were ancestral predators of the Pine Leaf Mouse, such as the Hawk of Erlang, Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, and Xiangliu Serpent Demon, to frighten it.

The constant pressure left the Pine Leaf Mouse restless. It couldn’t sleep well, eat comfortably, or relax at all. Even when it reminded itself the illusions weren’t real, it still couldn’t shake its fear.

Unlike previous untargeted illusions, Lin Jing's transformations deliberately exploited creatures imprinted as predators in the Pine Leaf Mouse’s bloodline. Concentrating the illusion's aura directly on it without dissipating the pressure naturally made it impossible for the Pine Leaf Mouse to stay calm.

Yet the training was undeniably effective. After several days, the Pine Leaf Mouse could remain undisturbed under the aura of a Foundation Establishment beast. Thankfully, the Thousand Transformations Illusions had not reached its limits. Monster Core Stage and Beast King Stage auras could still escalate the training.

Finally, just as the Pine Leaf Mouse’s nerves were nearing their breaking point, Elder Mo arrived with good news.

“Come with me to the Treasure Pavilion and retrieve your natal beast space treasure!” Elder Mo had successfully secured a natal space treasure for Lin Jing, even though he wasn’t yet an inheritance disciple.

“Natal treasures can be bonded with a drop of blood, making them impossible for others to steal. They possess some growth potential, improving slightly as the user’s cultivation increases.”

“The beast space treasure not only functions as a storage pouch but also allows living creatures to enter. However, it’s limited to the contracted beasts of the treasure's owner.”

“The space within also offers superior cultivation conditions compared to the inner peaks, further accelerating training!”

Elder Mo guided Lin Jing and the Pine Leaf Mouse to the peak of the Treasure Pavilion, which housed most of the sect’s treasures. Unlike the spiritual artifacts and magic tools meant for Qi Refining and Foundation Establishment disciples, treasures of this caliber were typically used by Golden Core cultivators. Only disciples who had become inheritance disciples and taken a Golden Core elder as their master had access to these treasures.

At the pavilion’s top floor, Elder Mo gestured toward seven treasures floating on glowing pedestals. “These are the seven remaining beast space treasures of the sect. Each has a unique appearance. Choose the one you like, and I’ll teach you how to refine it.”

“Thank you, Elder Mo,” Lin Jing expressed his gratitude before examining the treasures with the Pine Leaf Mouse. As Elder Mo had said, the treasures varied in form but seemed to be crafted using similar methods with different materials.

The types included: a cloth pouch, a stone ring, a jade bracelet, a meditation staff, a precious orb, a gourd, and a scroll.
