Chapter 63: The End of the Beast Sect?
The sect leader’s announcement stunned the gathered elders. Their minds reeled as if ten thousand demonic beasts were stampeding through. What? The sect is ending?
“D*mn it! In what way is the Beast Taming Sect a demonic sect?!” A red-haired Golden Core Elder roared in frustration. Beside him, the six Demonic King ancestors nodded solemnly in agreement. “Exactly!”
One of the ancestors, a parrot demon king, squawked furiously, “This is outrageous! The Sect Regulatory Office is targeting us just because the Beast Taming Sect’s top fighters happen to be demonic kings!”
“Which of us hasn’t shed blood for the sect? Which of us hasn’t fought for the Ancient Celestial Kingdom? Just because Beast Tamers die young, they treat us as outcasts? This is blatant discrimination!”
“If it’s so unfair, I might as well end it myself! Don’t try to stop me—none of you!”
The room fell silent. When no one moved to stop the parrot demon king, he awkwardly chose not to follow through on his threat.
Another ancestor, a flood dragon, narrowed its eyes. “We do occupy the sect’s finest training caves and claim the most resources, but is that truly wrong? We’ve fought alongside the previous sect leaders for centuries, some of us for over a thousand years. Don’t we deserve such rewards? Should we starve ourselves to prove we’re aligned with human prosperity?”
The Golden Core elders remained silent. The demonic kings’ contributions to the sect were undeniable, as was their claim to its best resources. But the Sect Regulatory Office cared only for Heavenly Fortune. The Ancient Celestial Kingdom, built on the principle of fortune alignment, prioritized human fortune over all else.
“It’s all your fault, Xu Xiaoyao!” One ancestor, a demonic elephant, turned its ire toward the sect leader. “If you’d worked harder and reached Divine Transformation, none of this would have happened!”“Blame me?!” Xu Xiaoyao shot to his feet. “You’re the ones parading around under the Beast Taming Sect’s banner! The other sects in the Great Wasteland are tired of being bullied by a pack of demonic kings with a legitimate front. Of course, they reported us to the Sect Regulatory Office! Maybe instead of retiring in luxury, you should find a new Beast Tamer to contract with!”
“Fine! But who?” A stag ancestor retorted casually. “There’s not a single other Nascent Soul in the sect besides you. Tell me, who can contract us?”
The grand hall descended into chaos as the ancestors and elders argued. Elder Mo, sitting near the back, trembled in his seat. He kept quiet about Lin Jing, afraid the young prodigy might end up as a snack for these agitated ancestors.
---
“The weather is wonderful today.”
Lin Jing enjoyed climbing to the top of his cave dwelling to bask in the morning glow, breathing in fresh spiritual energy as he cultivated. The light bathed him in a celestial radiance, making him appear like an immortal descended to the mortal world.
“Life feels more hopeful every day. Once I reach Foundation Establishment, I’ll officially be a true disciple.”
“Titles like ‘future holy son’ or ‘junior sect leader’ aren’t for me. Let the younger folks have those. With my longevity, I’ll be here to support the sect for far longer. Besides, becoming sect leader raises the question of when to step down. According to tradition, sect leaders only abdicate when near death. That’s too much of a hassle.” ŕÀNỘᛒÊs
He closed his eyes and focused on cultivating, his calm heart nurtured by his Longevity Body.
Not long after, a flustered figure approached from the distance.
“Junior Brother! Something terrible has happened!”
Senior Brother Ouyang, his face pale, grabbed Lin Jing by the sleeve as he descended from his dwelling.
Seeing Ouyang’s panic, Lin Jing frowned. “Senior Brother, what’s wrong? Weren’t you attempting to break through to Foundation Establishment? Did something go wrong?”
“Forget that—Sect Leader Xu has returned.”
“Isn’t that good news? With the sect leader here, your chances of a successful breakthrough should improve.”
Ouyang’s expression grew even grimmer. “The sect leader brought news that… the Beast Taming Sect may be disbanded!”
“Wait, what?!” Lin Jing’s composure faltered.
“Senior Brother, you must be joking! I’ve only been here for a year since you invited me to join, and now you’re telling me the sect is disbanding? With all our resources and heritage, how could this happen?”
Ouyang explained the Sect Regulatory Office’s decree: a century-long sect closure for reform. If the Beast Taming Sect failed to meet the required adjustments, it would face permanent dissolution.
The Sect Regulatory Office, an organization on par with the Demon-Slaying Bureau and Hidden Dragon Academy, wielded immense power in overseeing the Ancient Celestial Kingdom’s sects.
“Seal the sect for a century? And if the reform fails, abolish it entirely?” Lin Jing stared blankly at the sky, struggling to process the sudden turn of events.
“Once the spiritual veins are sealed, our peaks will no longer be suitable for cultivation,” Ouyang said, his voice heavy with despair.
“The Sect Regulatory Office demands that human fortune outweigh demonic fortune. How can we achieve that when our sect has eight demonic king ancestors and only one Nascent Soul human? How many Nascent Souls would we need to balance the scales?”
Ouyang sighed deeply. “We can’t exactly ask the ancestors to… sacrifice themselves. Without them, the Beast Taming Sect would fall to a third-rate sect in the Great Wasteland.”
“Did the sect leader mention any plans?” Lin Jing asked after a moment of silence.
“He did.” Ouyang nodded. “Sect Leader Xu intends to divide the sect into four groups and relocate the members.”
“First, the sect has always been on good terms with Hundred Flower Valley. The second, third, and fourth sect leaders were all married to its leaders. A portion of our members will take refuge there.”
“However, we’re too large to move everyone. The second group will join the Demon-Slaying Bureau as part of our alliance.”
“The third group will leave the Ancient Celestial Kingdom entirely, heading to Qingzhou, where the sect leader’s adopted daughter—our senior sister—has already gone to explore new opportunities.”
Lin Jing exhaled deeply. While technically not disbandment, these plans felt akin to dissolution.
He reflected on Hundred Flower Valley, a second-rate sect with only female disciples who raised spiritual butterflies. Meanwhile, Qingzhou, outside the kingdom’s jurisdiction, offered chaos but also greater opportunities for growth.
“Wait… the sect leader has a daughter?” Lin Jing blinked in surprise.
“She’s adopted. A girl he found as a baby years ago.”
“I see.”
“And the fourth group?” Lin Jing asked.
“The ancestors plan to take on true disciples and personally protect them. These disciples will train wherever they deem suitable, guided by their Nascent Soul demonic king masters.”
“Senior Brother, why did you rush over to tell me all this?” Lin Jing asked.
Ouyang hesitated before replying, “I heard the ancestors are already arguing over how to divide the sect’s resources. Everyone wants to bring as much heritage as possible to their new destination.”
“Even the sect leader suggested that emptying our centuries of accumulated resources might be the only way for the Beast Taming Sect to rise again after breaking.”
“I remember you’re heading to the Hidden Dragon Academy, right? With Senior Shen Song as your protector, you may not need to rely on the ancestors. But you should ask him to advocate for you. You’re the sect’s future—claim as much as you can before it’s all gone!”
Lin Jing fell silent. Seriously? They’re already splitting the family inheritance? Can’t we at least try bribery or backdoor negotiations before giving up entirely?
