Death... and me

Chapter 3660: Organisms

Chapter 3660: Organisms

Kentucky took the fruit from Celis and a Spatial Ring. Since using Pocket Dimensional Realms was out of the question, everyone brought Spatial Rings, including spare ones. Besides, the twins’ group got quite a few extras of them from the dead experts on the way here. This trip wasn’t only good for Starlight Energy and the System’s Quest but also for their reserves of High-Level Divine Stones.

*Bzzz...*

Kentucky felt the resistance of the Spatial Ring due to the huge concentration of Starlight Energy in the Fruit. However, he manipulated his space power and used it to fortify the passage of the Fruit into the Spatial Ring.

Kentucky didn’t relax and watched closely as the spatial space inside the Spatial Ring distorted. If anything happened, he would pull the fruit out before the space collapsed. Each fruit was important, after all.

It took a few minutes, but the space inside the Spatial Ring finally stabilized, even if ever so slightly. It didn’t matter, though. The important thing was that the Spatial Ring’s space wouldn’t be destroyed. "Great! We can use the Spatial Rings, but no more than one fruit per ring. Just make sure to let me send the fruits inside. Also, due to the fruits, the longevity of the spatial rings will be greatly affected."

"They will?" Rean asked back. "How long will the Spatial Ring’s Space last?"

Kentucky pondered a bit. "Probably a few decades, no less than twenty years."

Those were items for cultivators, beings that can live for hundreds, thousands, or even forever. Naturally, the Spatial Rings themselves had to last a very long time. The fact the Spatial Ring with a fruit inside would last only a few decades was already a huge difference from what it would have originally lasted for. Nonetheless...

"Great!" Rean and the others were happy enough to hear that. "The palace will be over in eight years anyway. Well, seven years and something now. It won’t matter if all Spatial Rings become useless later. They just have to last this long. We can buy or craft as many as we want later, after all."𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

And so, Celis put the Spatial Ring away. No doubt he would take very good care of it as if his life was inside.

Kentucky returned to his fruit, and they resumed their work.

Now and then, they noticed other groups reaching the Astral Tree, the shower of celestial bodies sparing no one. But Rean and the others had no intention of interacting or being bothered by them. So, Rean did something different this time and spent several days building simple but effective Concealing Formations around the Starlight Fruits.

He only did that on the fruits they would be working on, not all of the fruits, obviously. It would be weird if the Astral Tree went completely empty. Besides, since Citchi’s group knew the method to pluck the fruits, it wouldn’t be weird if some other group appeared with the same knowledge. It was better not to get into a fight with them. The tree was enormous, and there was no need to monopolize anything.

And so, time passed...

---

Years later, somewhere else, many Regions away, where floating organisms existed, two experts and their group found themselves in a tight fight. The reason for that wasn’t any kind of treasure, nor was it because one hated the other. In fact, neither group had known the other part until a few hours ago... until a member of each of their groups felt the presence of the other.

On one side, twelve Pink Lights were a sign that this group came from the Universe F952. On the other, 15 Yellow Lights pointed at the Universe F951 Origin. Everyone here was a Divinity Realm expert, although some of them weren’t at the Peak Stage.

*Boom, boom, boom...*

*Arrrghhh!*

A sequence of explosions, bursts of Divine Energy, and laws caused injuries on both sides, but one of the Yellow Universe experts had it worse. His body smashed against one of the floating organisms.

Those organisms looked like giant bacteria. They didn’t do anything; they didn’t attack anyone. They just waited. But if someone or something makes contact with them...

The organism immediately enveloped that expert. The guy used all his Divine Energy, Laws, Elements, Life-Saving Treasures, and everything he could think of. Yet, nothing seemed capable of destroying that organism that was absorbing him inside.

The groups watched as the man was taken. Those huge things were transparent. You could see through them to some extent. Thus, they saw how the organism completely dissolved that expert in a matter of seconds, including his soul.

But what happened after was what really shocked everyone. The organism suddenly transformed, using the expert’s energy to become some kind of flying snake.

The snake opened its eyes, which were completely dark and shot in the direction of the two groups.

"Fuck!"

The Yellow Universe, F951, was the target. As they had more experts, they obviously caught more of that strange organism’s attention.

"Lereval, stop it!"

"What?!" Lereval, a Late Stage Divinity Realm expert, gritted his teeth. "You better pay me after!"

He clashed against the snake organism, but he soon saw how his weapon was absorbed inside the snake. He tried to pull it out, but he couldn’t win against the absorption force. His laws and Elements were nullified, and the snake opened its mouth and tried to swallow him.

Of course, he immediately gave up his weapon, even if it was his prized treasure, and shot away. He barely dodged the snake, but the creature didn’t give up on him. The weapon dissolved inside its body and more energy was added to it. The guy understood that fighting that snake organism head-on was suicide. He had to use ranged attacks.

Meanwhile, the others continued their fight. It was obvious that both sides had a chosen each. One was a Demon Beast, while the other was an Angel. Both groups were made of such races. Neither side had any particular advantage against the other, so things got more gruesome as time passed.

The only difference was that they were more careful to not touch the organisms. But, at the same time, each side knew they could use the organisms to their advantage if they could make the enemy fall on them. Eventually, the next victim was sent flying into one of the organisms, and thus, he was absorbed by it, which changed into a spider-like form. Just like the snake, it also went after the experts.

The number of corpses increased, and experts from both sides died. Some actually fled, not willing to really risk their lives for this.

Finally, a conclusion was reached, and the Chosen Angel struck the Chosen Demon Beast. As their own companions were busy with each other, these chosen ones ended up fighting each other as well.

The Angel touched his and the demon beast’s light at the same time. The show of lights that the twins had seen before took place again, just like with Rifindio. Finally, the image of a Rune appeared together with the image of a Fruit, and they entered the Angel’s body.

"We are done! Let’s get out of-"

*Boom!*

Yet, before he could finish his words, the ground below him broke, and another one of those organisms shot out... swallowing the angel! The angel simply had no time to dodge, and he was also seriously worn out by the battle. He had no chance to escape, and his body, just like the previous ones, was dissolved.
