D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad
Chapter 1861 - 1861 Random Perspectives GO!— Kress —
Kress had claimed the key! The trick he was missing was that the key was actually an image projected through a spot on the roof. He… didn’t exactly find it a traditional way. He’d finally gotten a bit angry and fed up at the thing and kicked a rock into the podium which sent the rock flying up… and through the ceiling. Kress was then able to jump up there and claim the key. Took him way too long to consider something like that, but he managed it in the end so everything was fine.
Once the key was safely stored away he strode outside and looked around for Timmy. A bit of a snowstorm had apparently rolled through while he was working on that key so everything now had a dusting of snow over it. “Timmy?” asked Kress, careful not to raise his voice too much lest it echo across the huge area.
Movement to Kress’ right caused him to spin around and grab his weapon… only for Timmy to step out from under the snow and salute him. “Ah yeah… guess that would happen. Now… do you know how to get down the town?” Timmy shook their head. “Right… well… hmm…”
*Do I send them off to go look? Probably should’ve done that while I was still dealing with the key. Now though… it’s a bit harder to say. Hmmm… maybe I could catch up on a bit of sleep? What time is it?*
Kress glanced up at the sun… and got cloud cover for his troubles. It might not be snowing at the moment but that didn’t mean the sky was clear. Well that tells me a whole lot of nothing. It’s… probably not a good thing I don’t remember how long it took me to deal with that key. Kress was about to continue his internal debate when his stomach started growling.
Guess that solves that. “Timmy spend the next forty five minutes exploring the area and finding the best way down to the city with as many easy orbs to find as you can manage for bonus points. City is more important though,” stated Kress.
Timmy gave a salute and ran off as Kress made his way back inside the cave and started to pull out some food and water. He’d packed a variety of things… but it was basically all stuff he could eat with his hands. Just easier to leave no mess that way or take up space. To start with? A sandwich.
Kress bit down then the flavour hit him and he spat it out. “What the…” Kress opened up the sandwich to reveal it was filled with beetroot. “WHO THE FU-“
— Green —
Green sneezed in her sleep and rolled over. It was too hot to wake up.
— Cleavor Brightaxe —
Cleavor thanked her sister, a rare thing indeed, for being smart enough to insist on the filtration enchantments for their helmets. It had cost extra, and meant they had to skip out on other active abilities… but it had been paying for itself many times over throughout the whole morning.
There was pollen everywhere and while it was sticking to her armour and trying to find its way in between the cracks, due to the enchantments they’d gotten nothing had managed it. The air still felt crisp and cool… if only there was something to be done to increase visibility. Sadly, there wasn’t much to be done there. Cleavor did have a light enchantment she could activate but that wouldn’t really help.
Her orb collection was going well, and she’d been ducking in and out of various little burrows that were nicely stocked with orbs. Some had houses inside that had long since been abandoned, some looked to be old warehouses or something. Most though? They were just animal or monster burrows. A good strike with her mace was enough to deal with the critters and get the loot afterwards.
Cleavor considered grabbing some of them for food but… Cleavor glanced over at the most recent recipient of her mace. It was a rabbit-like monster with spines along its back and powerful legs. WAS. Now it was a smear on the ground, a mix of blood and broken spines. *Maybe I should be a bit gentler with the next one. I packed some food, but it’s not gonna last more than a few days.*
Cleavor also had to deal with another problem. That was… having no idea where to go. She wasn’t exactly tall and the constant pollen storms made it hard to make out landmarks. If it would let up for even a bit she could note down some major landmarks to travel towards and between… but nothing. She’d found nothing and she had no idea if she’d missed something important by a few metres or miles. The weather just made it impossible to tell.
Cleavor grumbled as she raised her mace back up onto her shoulder and glanced around, making sure this monster didn’t have any friends. Finding nothing she grabbed the nearby orb and crawled back out of the hole in the ground. It was a bit of a tight fit, but that was more the armour’s fault then her own. Still, she was a dwarf, a bit of a tight squeeze underground was nothing to worry about.
At least, not until she made her way out and came face to face with three more rabbit things. Weapon not in hand. Shit. Cleavor quickly triggered the spell in her boots, a jet of cold air exploded out of them shooting her forward and smacking away the closest of the rabbit monsters as she iced the cave during her swift escape.
As soon as she was on even ground she sent her mana into her leggings and an aura of cold exploded around her freezing the ground and coating the monster in a layer of frost. It wasn’t enough to put them down… but she had enough time to bring out her mace. They were just weak little pests and didn’t last long once she had a weapon in hand. Then she heard a clang. Looking around she saw the multiple corpses she’d left, the Timmy that had been waiting for her at the top… and nothing else.
Clang. Cleavor frowned. It didn’t hurt, whatever it was. “Timmy… you see anything?” Timmy notable didn’t move. *Dammit must still count as in combat. Why did I decide to choose this thing over a familiar again?* CLANG.
This time the noise was right next to her ear and so Cleavor reached up and slapped away at the nearby air, mostly on reflex. It collided with the last monster rabbit. The one that had ended up on her helmet… and been forgotten about. Cleavor smacking it away reminded her of this fact… but before she could follow up for the kill it bolted. Leaving its burrow and the multitude of corpses behind.
“Humph. Can’t even stick around to fight for its life. Then again… spose it was too weak to even hurt me so I can’t blame it,” grumbled Cleavor as she holstered her mace once again. Looking around, and this time, patting herself over a bit. Just in case.
— Crocus? Probably? —
Crocus didn’t like being without her twin sister. The sun was beating down, it was hot. There was sand getting in uncomfortable places… but she missed her sister the most. The problem? The enchantments they had to point them to each other should they get lost? Well currently they weren’t working. The compass needle was simply spinning in place as if the other end didn’t exist.
*Sister wouldn’t be so stupid as to get herself ‘killed’ in the first few minutes and it’s been like this since the round started. I have to imagine there’s either some interference that extends across the whole island or if those barriers I can see are blocking my tracking attempts. Annoying… but I already knew that.*
Crocus sighed as she continued to trudge forward. She was in the summer area, and right in top middle of it. She’d been summoned on the beach… if it could be called that. Her choice was between two blank walls and neither of them revealed what would be on the other side. She had no way of knowing which would lead to her sister… perhaps it was neither of them and her sister was in the winter area. Annoying.
Crocus paused as she noticed the ruins of a temple set into the sand. How did I miss that? Walking up to it Crocus could see sand covering the entrance. The inside was rather dark too. No torches or lights. *Hmm… do I want to go inside or keep looking for my sister? She should be searching for me as well… *
Glancing at the Timmy Crocus said, “Develop as many hidden traps as you can while leaving a safe path you can lead me down. If I have not returned in three hours start looking for me,”
Crocus sighed and stepped inside summoning a ball of fire and throwing it ahead of her. *Let’s go…*
