Dual Cultivation God Returns

Chapter 908 - 908: Echoes of the Wider World

Normally, the later part of the transaction would have been rocky as well, for someone buying up information on the Medicine God’s Pavilion’s matters and the Lin Family.

But as Wu Long and the clerk already had a small mutual secret about the game and identity verification, everything went far more smoothly, just becoming part of that secret.

Of course, Wu Long also bought some less sensitive but still valuable information from the clerk, or rather, since he was here already, he went forward and bought a large variety of information that interested him, going beyond this continent, and some even going beyond the Boundless Profound World.

There was a limit on how much he could learn from a small branch like this, but there was still more general information which was available even here. Information which was not that much of a secret as it was simply not readily available in these remote parts of the Seven Boundless World.

The variety and breadth of information he bought, while all being valuable to him, also served as a disguise for the more sensitive information as he bought everything in bulk.

This, of course, was very expensive, as he spent a bit over 2 million gold in here, but was able to largely gleam into the situation in the Seven Boundless Worlds after he ‘failed to advance in his Heavenly Tribulation’, according to the official narrative.

And he did not like the picture that was unveiled.

He said his farewells to the clerk, and had the illusory man he operated with talismans exit.

There was a tail on him, as the Palace of Secrets only ‘confirmed how he looked’, and still had to figure out his name and affiliation if it was possible, but the illusory man was ‘attacked and killed’ soon after exiting the Palace of Secrets, when he got on the wrong side of some thugs he ran into.

The Spatial Ring that the men from the Palace of Secrets got from the ‘corpse’ after disposing of the thugs also did not reveal much about him.

It contained the belongings of an average rogue cultivator. One, who just blew almost his entire fortune, leaving only a meager 300 gold, some silver and change in copper.

This closed the investigation by the Palace of Secrets, and thus no one cared about the ‘corpse’ disappearing after being disposed of.

He had suspicions when he heard from Fen Baihu about her powerful clan falling almost at the same time as Wu Long was ambushed, but there were many major, civilization-shaking events happening all over the Seven Boundless Worlds at the same exact time.

There were long-standing power structures, which were previously thought as unshakable that were disrupted and some of the oldest and most influential institutions of the Seven Boundless Worlds toppled.

The blitz plan, however, seemingly failed, and something went completely wrong.

Even if there were many great powers that fell, the ones who were able to weather that storm were far more numerous. In fact most, if not all, of Wu Long’s allies and supporters were able to come out unscathed, in addition to many who were unrelated to him.

Not to mention, part of his allies and supporters were also not really known to the rest of the Seven Boundless Worlds, either considered long since extinct, or never having been discovered to even exist other than by him.

However, there was now tension of an unprecedented intensity and scale, as the hidden hand behind the scene of the entire Seven Boundless Worlds, that Wu Long only theorized before, seemingly finally made its presence known with a decisive, even if ultimately failed, move.

With this, the World Powers were in a major stand-off, and Wu Long could predict a lot of major developments coming in the brief period of the next few thousand years.

In general, however, he was relieved and reassured.

The most opportune moment to strike was now gone, and with the element of surprise being forfeit, everyone was now on full alert, ready for a major confrontation, meaning it was not likely to happen easily as the cost of winning it was now too high to handle for either side.

There were almost no immediate fires that he had to speed up his movements to attend to, and those people he cared about were safe.

The one thing that concerned him was the Bahshi Assassination Group.

He did not like how dismissively the Yingmu Assassins League members he met before talked about such a powerful organization.

And the suspicion that formed because of that was confirmed now, as there was significant pressure mounting on the Bahshi Assassination Group all across the Seven Boundless Worlds, and it was forced into hiding for the most part.

What mattered to him in that, of course, wasn’t the fate of the assassin group as a whole, but the well-being of Hong Xinyi, the only person in that entire organization he cared about.

So far there was no indication that any harm came to her, which wasn’t hard to believe, as harming her would require to first find her, and with the Bahshi Assassins being a secretive organization in the first place, and entirely made up of those who could not go against her because of the cultivation techniques they practiced, just finding her was already a colossal task, especially if she didn’t want to be found.

And she wasn’t someone foolish enough to not go into hiding when the Hong Family was attacked.

But losing the Hong Family was also something that put Hong Xinyi in a difficult position to make any movements beyond keeping her safety, and he knew she was not someone who would be content with hiding forever.

The Hong Family, which held sway over the Bahshi Assassination Group among other similar and otherwise organizations, was part of what was previously called the Three Palaces, Four Pavilions and Seven Families of the dark side of the Seven Boundless Worlds.

It was because Wu Long was able to get the Hong Family onboard with the change of power in the Bahshi Assassination Group that Hong Xinyi was allowed to take over, and Old Man Bahshi was discarded.

Of course, part of the calculation was that Hong Xinyi was part of the family and was deemed more loyal to them whereas Old Man Bahshi was someone they controlled, but could not fully trust.

Once thought untouchable, the Hong Family was now in ruins, along with another of the Seven Families, and two of the Four Pavilions.

The Obsidian Moon Palace was also suppressed along with the other palace, The Palace of the Heavenly Spider, making the underworld of the Seven Boundless Worlds now revolve around only One Palace, Two Pavilions, and Five Families.

Among the families, the one which owned the Yingmu Assassins League before, and at one point became the weakest of the Seven Families of old, in large part due to Wu Long targeting them, was now on the rise again, becoming the second most powerful one out of the remaining five.

This was something quite displeasing, but not irreversible. He just had to crush them again, just like with the Lust Cultivators and now the Corrupt Path which decided to shelter Lust Cultivators, therefore becoming his target as well.

But with his mind now at ease for the most part about the major developments in the wider world, he could fully concentrate on the path that was before him, now without worrying about the need to speed up and therefore abandon the ideal course of actions entirely, even if it was subject to changes.
