Exorcist’s Self-Cultivation

Chapter 201: I’m giving you a chance

Du Wei had just finished speaking.

Suddenly, the Pennywise Clown in front of him let out a low, ominous laugh.

In the blink of an eye, the lights went out.

The Pennywise Clown disappeared directly into the darkness.

Inside the entire circus, only one light existed, and it was always shining on Du Wei.

He was the sole point of light.

Beyond that, everything else plunged into darkness.

And it wasn’t just the darkness visible to the naked eye, even the Spirit Vision could not see anything.

But Du Wei was not the least bit panicked; he stood emotionlessly in place, supporting a Black Umbrella with his left hand and clutching a Dagger in his right.

"The darkness I see is probably caused by your abilities, just like a curtain, you hide behind the curtain, but all I can see is the curtain itself,” he said.

"Darkness stems from an instinctual fear because it represents the hindrance of sight, inconvenient movement, being bound hand and foot, and even the inability to move normally.”

"But in reality, what people fear is the unknown that might appear in the darkness; once danger presents itself, even the act of running away is hindered, leading to death.”

"So how do you induce a person’s fear of darkness?”

"The answer is to place them in a spot of light, surrounded by pitch darkness, and quietly appear behind them.”

After Du Wei finished speaking, he turned around to look behind him.

But he could only see pitch darkness and nothing else.

However, Du Wei’s gaze didn’t waver; he calmly continued talking to the dark space, “After I use the Joker Card, the connection between you and me will not be severed in any form.”

"If these are your only tricks, then I must say, you who seems to be frightening are actually weaker than a stray dog to me.”

In the darkness.

The gloomy laugh of the Pennywise Clown emerged once again.

Then, its face, smeared with greasepaint and looking ferociously hideous, slowly became visible.

"Heh heh heh…”

It must be said that if someone else were in this situation, they would probably be immediately scared into a heart attack.

But Du Wei, transformed by the Evil Spirit, was utterly devoid of emotion; logic and calmness completely dominated everything.

He completely ignored the terrifying visage of the Pennywise Clown and straightforwardly thrust the Dagger forward.

Snap…

The vision blurred.

The last incandescent light went out completely.

Darkness filled the field of vision.

Du Wei couldn’t see anything around him, and although he held the Dagger in his right hand, he didn’t feel the sensation of touching the Evil Spirit.

Following that, a cold breath could be felt on the back of his neck…

Only a living person breathes.

And in this circus, besides himself, there were no other living people.

This meant that the Pennywise Clown was still trying to awaken his terror, intending to kill him.

The cold breath on Du Wei’s neck caused him physiological discomfort, and his skin broke out in goosebumps.

"Low-level scare tactics…”

Du Wei swung back with the Dagger but hit nothing.

His gaze turned even colder, and twisting his neck, he said, “How long do you plan to run? I just want to play a game of chance with you, yet you want to play hide-and-seek, wasting my time.”

The connection was getting weaker.

Pennywise seemed to have given up on attacking Du Wei and disappeared completely within the circus.

But the surrounding darkness was still thick, severely affecting his sight.

It wanted to trap Du Wei here.

The Evil Spirit needed the negative emotions such as fear from people to grow gradually stronger; the more people it killed, the more powerful it became.

But people need to eat and drink.

Being trapped in one place for too long, inevitably due to one’s physiological structure, one will gradually weaken, and even starve or die of thirst.

Du Wei tucked the Dagger under his arm and took out the lighter that could deal with the Evil Spirit from his pocket.

A gentle press.

But it did not light up.

Only when the Evil Spirit appeared around, could this lighter be of any use, otherwise it couldn’t even light a cigarette.

Yet the surrounding darkness was so dense it seemed impenetrable…

"An illusion?”

Du Wei said expressionlessly, then put the lighter back in his pocket and closed his eyes.

The next second.

An accurate map of all the trajectories he had taken since entering the circus formed in his mind.

The method was simple and crude.

But it was effective.

A few minutes later.

Du Wei walked out of the circus, looking at the gloomy downpour inside the amusement park, he couldn’t help but frown.

Through the connection with Pennywise Clown, he realized this ghastly thing seemed not to be on the surface, but rather had entered some sort of basement.

"The more narrow and oppressive the space, the less secure people feel, and hence when something terrible happens, it is easy for them to fall into fear.”

"More boring psychological tricks.”

Du Wei no longer wanted to play hide and seek with Pennywise. It was now 11:30 AM, and he had a lot to do.

"Since you want me to develop a sense of fear, I’ll give you the chance…”

His voice was indifferent, with an eerily strange tone.

Just as another him had said, as Evil Spirit Transformation deepened, the two would inevitably become more synchronized.

By then, there would be no difference between him and Evil Spirit Du Wei.

Having said that.

Du Wei immediately exited the Evil Spirit Transformation, the chilly aura around him gradually dissipated.

He indeed intended to give Pennywise Clown a chance.

But even without the influence of Evil Spirit Transformation, it was difficult for him to feel any sense of fear.

Having been in contact with the Evil Spirit for a long time, he had almost gotten used to it.

Even nuns couldn’t make him feel fear, let alone a Pennywise Clown with such obvious weaknesses.

Moreover, its means of inducing fear might work on others.

But for Du Wei, they were just too primitive.

At the time he sought revenge for his parents, the psychological tricks he used on that enemy directly drove the person into madness, leading to a suicide by jumping off a building.

"I understand everything you do, and I’m even better at these than you are.”

Having spoken, Du Wei closed his eyes.

He was about to set a psychological trick for himself.

"When I count to 3, all the terrifying things I’ve ignored will start affecting me. I can only control the fear, not make it vanish, but once I enter Evil Spirit Transformation again and grab it with my Right Hand, the psychological trick will lose its effect.”

“1…”

“2…”

“3…”

No sooner had he spoken.

Du Wei uncontrollably felt a sense of fear, originating from the Clown.

In an instant.

The connection between him and Pennywise Clown deepened.

And a chilly evil intent, following that connection, slowly seeped into Du Wei’s consciousness, causing him to involuntarily gasp for air, as a chill ran down his spine…

Du Wei barely suppressed his fear and opened a corner of his backpack.

Inside were white cloths that could be used against the Evil Spirit.

If Pennywise refused to follow him to the clinic, then he would forcibly take it back…

"I’ve given you the opportunity, I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
