GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2053 Recruitment.

Chapter 2053  Recruitment.

One of the things he discovered after sorting out is memories is that his knowledge of this time period is lacking in many places. It is because he wasn’t very strong in the lives he lived before this dying world became the void universe.

If not for his knowledge of what happened in the future after this world became the void universe, his knowledge and understanding would make him effectively blind.

For example, he knows how the power system of this world came to be, and he knows what its goal is from knowing its result, but he doesn’t know how to grow stronger with the power system beyond the common sense of laymen.

Unlike in the void universe where there’s mana everywhere and everyone can grow stronger at least to the level of vitality core refinement, most of the people of this world don’t even know that there is a power system.

Most of the people of this world are ignorant of the existence of the power system, and most of them can’t even get started on it even if they know about it.

For most of his life in this time period, he too was one of the ignorant and the helpless. This has made him partially ignorant currently. It is why he is determined to latch onto the night guards and become one of them.

He knows a lot about the Tenebrium world, which is why he is hell-bent on becoming one of them. If he joins them, he will be able to gain access to high-level knowledge that he needs to ascend.

When he thought about his goal of ascension, he couldn’t help but feel melancholic because if he succeeds in it, odds are that he will have to replace the progenitor of the void universe.

He is not certain of that since he doesn’t know how the progenitor of the void universe came to be exactly. But he knows for certain that he must reconnect to the origin, and the only person he knows that should be in possession of the origin of infinity is the Will of the void universe.

Right now, he is disconnected from the origin. He is not the only one who is. Everyone else is.

His only connection to the origin is through the 13th channel, but that obviously doesn’t exist yet. It won’t exist until he becomes an Absolute.

If he is to become an Absolute and if he is to gain access to the origin again, he will need strength. To get strength, he will need knowledge, connections, and resources. So he has made up his mind to join the night guards.

He said to himself, “So I have to pass this interrogation with flying colors.”

He thought that as he was taken by some night guards for interrogation. He was placed in a dimly lit room where someone would ask him questions about what had happened that night.

It has been more than six years since the calamity that killed everyone in his village, but he is still regarded as a witness.

He is no longer regarded as a suspect, though. Humans have poor memories, so they have forgotten about that.

Some people have even forgotten about him, and some of the people that met him that night are dead. If not for the fact that interrogation had to be done, they would have let him go already.

The interrogation was a formality. No one took it seriously.

In fact, no one thought he could be a useful witness after six years had passed since the crime. A lot had happened since that crime, so the interrogator only did the bare minimum during the interrogation.

She only used the truth seal during the interrogation. It is a grey piece of stone that would turn white if the person holding it is speaking the truth or turn black if they are lying.

Since Legion didn’t know what had happened that night, what he said was the truth.

The interrogator asked, “Do you know what happened that night?”

He replied, “Many people died in my village.”

“Do you know who was responsible for their deaths?”

He replied, “No.”

“Do you have any knowledge that might be useful to the investigation?”

He nodded and said, “Yes. I think the cause of their deaths was supernatural.”

The interrogator was already bored after three questions. When the truth seal didn’t show any adverse reaction to what he said, she cleared him of suspicion immediately.

It was clear that the night guards were not taking the interrogation seriously. Only he took it seriously.

After the interrogation, he begged them to allow him to join them. He claimed he wanted to have his revenge on the person responsible for the calamity.

Since he didn’t have a home to return to and he had been cleared of suspicion, they allowed him to join them as a probationary officer.

It would take some time before he can become a lamp bearer. In the meantime, he was given a place to stay and a salary of one pound per week.

As a probationary officer, he had to share a room with someone else. This room is a part of a large barrack where the probationary officers of the town of Ivory lives.

His recruitment and packing into his place were done very quickly. It was all done within a few hours.

He didn’t have much to take with him to his new place anyway. He had been living in a hospital for the past six years, and no one came to visit him, so it is safe to say that property is not the only thing he is lacking in this world. He is also lacking relatives and friends.

He isn’t sure of what he will find if he returns to his village, so he can only bear the paltry living conditions of the dormitory.

He shrugged to himself and said, “Not that I need anything fancy. I can live out in the wilds and sleep on the bare ground if it won’t kill me. As long as I don’t die and continue to gain power, nothing else matters.”
