I Was Caught up in a Hero Summoning, but That World Is at Peace

Chapter 2289: Miyama Kaito's Birthday Celebration Party Continues ㉝

I steadily kept receiving presents, and by now, I figured there probably weren’t many left. Actually, I couldn’t even immediately recall who I hadn’t received one from yet. I could think of one person, but beyond that, I honestly had no idea how many remained.

Still, I spun the garapon, thinking the end must be near……

<SHALLOW VERNAL>

……Eh? No, no, this can’t be right. Shiro-san showing up here doesn’t make sense. A second time?

I was thrown into confusion at seeing Shiro-san’s name again, someone who should’ve already given me her present, only for her to appear right in front of me.

[No, that’s not it. My name showing up is a kind of signal.]

[……A signal?]

[Yes. With the next present exchange being the final one, this marks the moment when Kaito-san will return to the original timeline. After that, the parallel worlds will be merged. You’ll receive the final present from the last person, and that will mark the end of the gift exchanges. My reappearance in the garapon is the signal for that.]

[Ah, I see……]

Now that I thought about it, it did make sense. While I retained the memory of all the presents I had received so far, if during the upcoming integration of the parallel worlds everyone were to inherit memories from all those worlds, it would be far too overwhelming.

So most likely, each person would only inherit the memories of the parallel world where they personally gave their present. That way, their act of giving would remain intact in memory, and the exchanges would be considered complete. It’d naturally flow into the next event from there, but having a clear breakpoint like this made a lot more sense.

Which is probably why the parallel world integration would happen now, followed by receiving the final gift as a way to wrap things up, and then moving straight into the final bonus event.

[Well then, you’re already back in the original timeline, so I’ll leave the rest to Alice.]

As Shiro-san said that and disappeared, Alice gave a slight nod and began speaking, as if on cue.

“Alright. As previously announced, we will now proceed with the integration of the parallel worlds. Each of you will retain the memories of the world where you gave your gift to Kaito-san, and the presents you prepared will be updated to a state where they’ve already been given. You may suddenly feel like your memories have increased, but don’t worry, the Gods will use their Omnipotent powers to ensure the transition is smooth…… Once the memory transfer is complete, Kaito-san will receive the final present, and that will mark the end of the birthday gift giving that began with Shallow Vernal-sama.”

“Honestly though, isn’t it kind of amazing how Shall-tan and Kurorin are just sitting there all chill? Getting bombarded with all these parallel world memories at once feels kinda uncomfortable.”

“Well, we handle that by cleverly partitioning our thoughts. Ahh, there’s no need to worry, everyone. Fate-san only ended up like that because she chose to inherit all the memories of the different parallel worlds on her own. For the rest of you, you’ll only be inheriting the memories of the world in which you gave your present, so the information load won’t be overwhelming or make you feel sick.”

It seemed that those who were Quasi-Omnipotent level, like Fate-san, Alice, and Kuro, were capable of inheriting memories from parallel worlds on their own. Something similar had happened during Hydra Kingdom’s Founding Festival, but perhaps because she still wasn’t fully used to it, Fate-san looked like she was trying to endure a mild headache.

“Alright. We’ll begin the integration in 5 seconds. 5…… 4…… 3…… 2…… 1…… There. Everyone’s memory transfer should now be complete. I think everyone’s fine, but if anyone feels unwell, please speak up. Now then…… there’s one person whose memory of giving their present wasn’t transferred. Yes, you are the final one.”

Truthfully, I already knew who that last person was. In fact, while the garapon was spinning earlier, I had been thinking how it’s getting close to the end, but that person still hasn’t shown up.

When I shifted my gaze toward the person in question, I saw her face had gone completely pale, an expression of utter despair on it.

“Well, this is mostly a formality, but let’s still spin the garapon for the final round. Kaito-san, if you would, go ahead~~”

Starting with Shiro-san and ending here, the one Alice referred to as the grand finale would have to hand over her gift while under the full attention of everyone present…… which, honestly, felt a bit pitiful.

With those thoughts in mind, I spun the garapon again…… and the name of the final person appeared.

<LUNAMARIA>

……Looking at her direction, I saw Lilia-san, wearing a deeply sympathetic expression, gently pat Luna-san on the shoulder as Luna-san forced a stiff smile with eyes that looked like those of a dead fish.
