[Prototype Snaplock Pistol] (Level 55)

Rarity: Uncommon+

Attack: 14,022 – 23,370

Cooldown: 7 seconds (5.95 seconds)

Forge Quality: Average

Forged by a blacksmith that has gotten close to the origin of the craft, this weapon is the culmination of their application of the knowledge he learned, deciding to stay true to the basics throughout the process.

Although the weapon contains many areas that warrant further improvement, it is nevertheless a lethal weapon under the right hands, containing a level of might at a speed that would catch those used to matchlock firearms off-guard.

Nevertheless, this weapon merely acts as a stepping stone for the blacksmith in their quest to bring back the age of ranged weapons to its peak.

<Innate Skill 1: Snap, Crackle, Pop – Allows the user to infuse mana into the weapon, drastically increasing the might behind the next shot. Deals 300% of the user’s Attack stat as damage. Has an extremely small chance of completely breaking the weapon. Cooldown: 5 minutes. Cost: 5,000 MP.>

Remarks: Two steps forward in the right direction… but also one step back in the wrong direction.

“Hmm.” Looking through the description of the new firearm he just made, Valyr nodded in slight satisfaction as he gave the firearm another look.

Whoosh!

Closing the screen he brought up, he then took out some gunpowder and a bullet from his spatial bracelet, only to then proceed arming the firearm as if it were his arquebus.

Making sure to put a bit more gunpowder into the barrel than usual, the young man then took in a calming breath, pointing the firearm at one of the scrap metal piles Ryvrthe arranged to one side of his room.

“One question.” Just as his pointer finger began to hover above the trigger, Valyr took the current situation as an opportunity to ask Ryvrthe something. “Do you think the people outside would hear the gunshot?”

“No.” The man shook his head. “Why do you ask?”

“Just asking.” Getting confirmation from the leader of the Forsaken race himself, the young man began to grin as he infused energy into the snaplock.

“[Snap, Crackle, Pop]!”

Bang!

Feeling his energy saturate the entire firearm, Valyr went ahead and pulled on the trigger, causing a cascade of sparks to appear as a bullet whizzed through the air not even a second later.

Crash!

Unsurprisingly, with how much power was contained within the bullet, the pile Valyr aimed at immediately came crashing down with ease, transforming Ryvrthe’s painstaking work of stacking those pieces of scrap metal together into an utter mess.

“…” Feeling as if a bit of himself died the moment he saw one of his scrap piles come tumbling down, the man remained silent as he looked at Valyr straight in the eye.

Sensing the murderous intent contained within the gaze Ryvrthe gave him, the young man quickly understood what he needed to do, making use of his energy to rearrange the scrap metal pile he just ruined into what it was before.

After that, he gave him a sincere apology, which finally allowed the man to ease up and return to how he was before.

“…For a prototype to pack that much power, it’s not bad,” said Ryvrthe with a slightly satisfied nod. “However, there’s still more things to improve upon it if we want to maximize its capabilities.”

Though Ryvrthe’s murderous intent had somewhat dampened the excitement Valyr felt from firing the snaplock firearm earlier, the words that left the former’s mouth surprisingly rekindled it.

Then again, considering how they’d eventually reach a point where they’d be making modern firearms in a medieval world…

Who wouldn’t be?

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

Keeping an eye on the part he was making as he gradually refined its shape, Valyr kept his sense of hearing peeled in case Ryvrthe said something to him on the side.

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

Nevertheless, with him having spent over a day and half forging snaplock firearms again and again, the young man had more or less ironed out all of the obvious mistakes one would make while crafting such a firearm.

“Huu…” Seeing that he was close to making his best firearm yet, Valyr went ahead and activated his ocular skills, slowly but surely removing the imperfections that he had ignored throughout the entire process.

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

After he had made sure that all of the imperfections were removed, it was only then did he finally put the parts together, transforming what was previously a large set of various parts and pieces into a pistol that exuded a sense of elegance under its veiled lethality.

Ding!

[You have successfully forged the item: Refined Snaplock Pistol. Quality has been rated to be Exceptional.]

“Phew.”

Wiping off the sweat that formed on his forehead, Valyr placed his forging hammer to the side as he took a look at his newly made pistol with the help of his identification skill.

Ding!

Going through its description in detail, the young man eventually had a proud smile on his face, seeing that the fruits of his labor had successfully pushed the rarity of the pistol to Epic grade.

“Try it out.” Getting a feel of the new firearm for a bit, Valyr soon gave the pistol for Ryvrthe to try out, who went ahead and armed the pistol as quickly as the young man did it.

Bang!

Showing no hesitation once he was done arming, the man fired the pistol at one of the chamber’s walls, only to then raise his eyebrow as he noticed that the recoil behind the shot was stronger than usual.

Crack…

Following the trajectory of the shot, both Valyr and Ryvrthe soon found themselves staring at a slightly deep hole on the wall with spiderweb cracks spreading out from it.

“Good weapon.” With the sight before them giving them a good idea of how powerful the pistol was, Ryvrthe eventually gave the firearm back to Valyr with a proud smile on his face.

Smiling in return, the latter asked back, “Does that mean we can move onto flintlocks now?”

“Honestly, we could’ve proceeded with flintlocks for quite some time now,” answered Ryvrthe with a slight nod. “However, I thought that it’d be better if you familiarized yourself with the snaplock mechanism first.”

“After all, aside from it being the mechanism you’ve chosen for that request you accepted, there’s only a slight difference between a snaplock and a flintlock, which makes crafting the latter on your first try much easier.”

“Do you think I should try upgrading my arquebus to a flintlock first, then?” asked Valyr in response, bringing up the modified matchlock for the man to see.

Surprisingly, Ryvrthe was inclined towards the idea. “Go for it. I’d say it’s easier than making a flintlock from scratch.”

“Alright then.” With those words, Valyr knew what he had to do next.

“Wish me luck.”
