Under the effects of Outrage, an injured Arcanine is like a beast, driven solely by its combat instincts. Hariyama’s strength lies in the power stored in its legs and the force of its palms—once these two parts are sealed, not even Brawly can turn the tide!
An Arcanine in Outrage state doesn’t fear pain, with its combat instincts pushed to the limit!
“What a terrifying opponent.” Brawly’s fighting intent had also reached the peak. He was exhilarated by the intensity of this battle!
“Use Focus Blast!”
Arcanine arrived in a flash, but Brawly still gave his command. Two crimson Focus Blasts formed in Hariyama’s palms, and as Arcanine closed in, Hariyama smashed them together. Just as Arcanine’s crazed gaze locked onto Hariyama’s legs, a massive explosion erupted.
Boom! Boom!
“What’s going on?” Everyone was stunned by Brawly’s command and Hariyama’s actions. Terrance watched Arcanine quickly retreat from the smoke and suddenly felt a sense of foreboding.
“Was that Endure?” Terrance muttered.
This move ensures that, even when struck by a fatal blow, the user retains at least a sliver of HP and a thread of consciousness!
Yet now, it was used by Brawly in a proactive manner, successfully executed through self-inflicted harm!“It’s been a long time since I’ve had such an exciting battle. To return the favor, Hariyama and I will use our full strength—”
“Hariyama, use Reversal!”
Terrance smiled. As expected, it was Reversal. This unconventional move allows the user to do an all-out attack, and the less HP the user has, the stronger its power becomes!
This guy…
“Four seconds left…”
Quickly lifting his head, Terrance instantly devised nine tactics to thwart the opponent’s actions before it could even arrive. But in the end, Terrance abandoned all those plans. From the start, this young Gym Leader, though constantly suppressed, had shown remarkable resilience, so Terrance decided to face him head-on. Even though after the battle, Arcanine might not lose consciousness, the remaining stamina would hardly be enough to keep fighting afterward…
“This will be the final attack!”
The two figures clashed, and after a brief moment of silence, an explosion sent flames flying in all directions!
On one side was “Reversal” with its raw physical power, and on the other was ultra-high-speed Flare Blitz while the Outrage was at its final moments.
Boom!!
As the sound echoed through the venue, many spectators who had stood up for a better view sat back down, taking deep breaths.
Too exhilarating.
This is what a real battle should be like! The previous battles were like they were playing around. Sure enough, only Trainers of the same caliber can deliver an exciting match. ℟á₦ổβĘṩ
“Who won?”
Roxanne looked toward the arena. It seemed premature to declare a winner just yet. It was already certain that Hariyama could no longer battle—the only thing that has to be seen is whether Arcanine managed to endure Hariyama’s attack.
“Whew~~”
With a long exhale, the remaining flames were blown away. Brawly gave a wry smile—he still lost… He hadn’t even managed to secure a draw.
From the moment he underestimated Arcanine’s power and Hariyama’s palms were rendered useless, he had already taken a step toward defeat. However, he had been unwilling to give up and had gone all out for one last chance, but he didn’t expect that, beyond sheer strength and explosive power, Arcanine also possessed extraordinary defense and willpower—it was shocking.
What left Brawly most dejected was the fact that he had been defeated in his area of expertise!
If his opponent had used a sneaky Ghost-type Pokémon or an unpredictable Psychic-type Pokémon, Brawly could have accepted the loss. Even Elite Four-level Trainers struggle when facing opponents with type advantages, so how could he do any better?
But to be defeated in his area of expertise… That was truly hard to swallow…
Meanwhile, Terrance was also quite troubled. Looking at Arcanine’s scarred body, it was hard to believe it could endure another Outrage and withstand the recoil from another collision.
The first wave of attacks was forcefully blocked, the second wave was intercepted, and it got caught in massive impact in the third attack. Arcanine seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the battle, and judging by its excited expression, Terrance knew it was feeling great.
However, for Terrance himself, Arcanine’s Trainer, this battle had been a risky gamble.
He could have used Mismagius for a more loathsome combat strategy, perfectly countering Brawly’s Fighting-type specialization. Alternatively, in the final moments, he could have switched Arcanine to use a non-contact move to deal a decisive blow to Hariyama, who had only a sliver of HP remaining. Yet, for various reasons, Terrance decided to battle in the style that both Arcanine loved and Brawly and Hariyama excelled at. As a result, although Arcanine won, it couldn’t immediately participate in the next battle.
Still, Terrance smiled. He didn’t regret it in the slightest. Being able to defeat Brawly, a fellow Gym Leader, in his own area of expertise was a rare opportunity to test his faith in Arcanine. Moreover, isn’t this kind of battle even more thrilling?
Roxanne continued to observe the arena. As a fellow Hoenn Gym Leader from the younger generation, she had interacted with Brawly numerous times. Their strength wasn’t far apart—in fact, Brawly might even be slightly stronger than her.
“I remember that Brawly and his Hariyama not only trained under Mr. Chuck of Cianwood City, but he also mentioned that he once trained alongside Elite Four Bruno of the Kanto Region in Sevault Canyon on Quest Island, receiving some pointers. Even so…”
Roxanne was more shocked than the other Trainers because she knew Brawly well and understood what kind of person he was. Someone like him was defeated in his area of expertise?
…
…
“From now on, the combat style should prioritize ‘stability.’” Terrance thought to himself.
Arcanine was already undergoing recovery treatment, but it was clear that it wouldn’t be able to regain much stamina in a short period and wouldn’t be at peak strength.
Under such circumstances, if he had to engage in a few more battles like the one with Brawly, it would indeed be exciting and thrilling, and even Arcanine would find it exhilarating~
But if things went south, Terrance couldn’t afford to lose face.
“Just this once, and besides, Arcanine has the strongest recovery ability among all my Pokémon. It’s the only one with the capability to pull off something like this.”
A slight smile appeared on Terrance’s lips. Since that was the case, it was time to let Mismagius, with its agile and eerie battle style, spread fear by trapping challengers in bewildering illusions.
Brawly’s defeat made even more people hesitant to step up and challenge. If the previous one-sided battles left some of them with a sliver of hope, this evenly matched showdown shattered whatever remained of it. Once you have a point of reference, strength becomes a much more tangible thing.
However, the unwillingness to challenge didn’t apply to the dozen or so people who had stood up.
“Daimon from Nine Treasures City… He once assisted an Inspector in capturing an international criminal and became somewhat famous after his name appeared in the newspapers. Some even claim he’s been accepted into the police academy for training…”
Someone recognized the next challenger and exclaimed in surprise.
