Terra Nova Online: Rise of The Strongest Player
Chapter 785: Caught Red-HandedChapter 785: Caught Red-Handed
“How is it related to the theft?”
Leo’s question, left Kid in a pickle, however, he had expected to touch this subject sooner or later and had cooked up a convincing lie for the same.
“See this is the part where there are things I can tell you and there are things that I can’t tell you” Kid began, as he fidgeted with his hands and avoided making eye contact with Leo.
“Someone within the ship was following orders from the Mu Clan to pause your meditation progress at once, because risking even a single day more of meditation could see you trigger the awakening and we might never know just how close you really are.
Whoever stole your manual not only undermined your privacy and integrity, but also my authority and I’m very ashamed that I let it happen.
Nonetheless, I assure you, it was all in your best interest and that no-one here is deliberately trying to sabotage your progress…” Kid explained, as Leo scrutinized his every word with skepticism.
Leo was not naive enough to believe that someone was not deliberately trying to sabotage his progress, as just a few days before his manual was stolen, his meditation room suddenly lost its potency.
While the isolated first incident could be a coincidence, twice could not be called a coincidence anymore and hence Leo did not buy what Kid was selling.
“Very well…. I’ll believe you Captain, I’ll believe I am not being specifically targeted by a staff member, but I’ll still need you to give me a name and tell me how you punished your underling for undermining your authority. You give me that and I’ll be done here” Leo demanded, as Kid broke out in nervous sweat.
“I can’t give you the name. You need to understand, the Mu Clan is very powerful outside the confines of this ship and exposing their agent will open a can of problems for me that I do not want to face.
They can make my life a living hell, and they are not an enemy I want to make” Kid explained, as he looked genuinely frightened when he uttered these words.
Most of his fear stemmed from the potential of being caught lying, however, how it materialized on his face made him look like he was genuinely terrified, making his acting genuinely convincing to any onlooker including Leo.
Usually, Leo would not have bought the explanation that he was afraid of what the Mu Clan could do to him, however, after looking into his terrified eyes and frantic face, Leo believed that maybe Kid really was scared for his life and had to keep the identity of the thief a secret.
“Very well then, if you can’t give me a name then you must give me compensation.
I haven’t meditated in two days because of all this mess and the mental stress it has caused me was significant.
I must gain some benefit from this debacle, or it was all pointless” Leo demanded, as Kid turned pale once again.
He had nothing worthwhile to offer Leo, as apart from being the communicator between the universal government and Leo, or some third party and Leo, who wanted to sponsor him a gift or negotiate a contract, Kid had no clout of his own, whereby he could offer Leo anything worthwhile out of his own pocket.
“Compensation? What compensation? You got your manual back, and lots of important information from me, what else do you need?” Kid asked, sounding bewildered as Leo wagged his finger in front of his face.
“No…no…no… no… no, Captain, I think you don’t quite understand the position you’re in.
You see, while you were busy cooking up lies, I secretly slid under your feet a tray of moist flour and captured your footprint.
You see, my brother had a strong suspicion that it was you who stole from me, because except for yourself and Elandor, none of the other staff members have my house passkey.
So when I walked in here to meet with you today, I used the skill [Mirror World] and carefully let my clone, who was also invisible at that time, walk in behind me, while carrying this tray in hand.
Leo said, as he pointed towards the floor, where a white flour tray with Kid’s footmark was placed.
“This is the same distinct mark, I found in my backyard, so I know for sure it’s YOU who stole from me Captain, and regardless of your lies and best intentions, I’m not convinced that you don’t mean to harm me” Leo said, as he snapped his fingers and his clone who had been invisible all this time, suddenly became visible again, as he wrestled Kid into a deathlock with a dagger pointed at his neck. řÃɴОꞖËś
“So Captain, when I say, I want a good deal, it’s not for me really…..
I’ve already got back my manual and a good story, but you, on the other hand, need to give me a good deal to survive” Leo continued as his gaze turned from moderate to predatory.
Kid’s heart pounded in his chest, the dagger pressing against his throat a constant reminder of just how precarious his situation had become.
His mind raced, scrambling for anything he could offer Leo to escape this nightmare, but what could he give him?
Access to restricted ship resources? Leo didn’t need that; his VIP status already granted him more privileges than most.
Better meditation manual? That was absurd—Leo already had the best the Mu Clan could provide.
A favor from the Mu Clan? Impossible. He had no sway with them, not to extort favors to save his own ass.
Every idea he considered collapsed under the weight of its own futility. He had nothing—nothing—to offer a man like Leo.
His hands trembled, and for the first time in his life, Captain Kid truly felt powerless.
Sweat dripped down his forehead as Leo’s gaze bore into him, cold and unrelenting. The silence stretched on, suffocating, until Kid’s breaking point finally snapped.
“I’ll tell you the truth,” Kid blurted out, his voice cracking with fear. “Everything. No more lies, no more games. I’ll be your loyal dog, Leo—your servant, your informant, your anything—just spare me today. Please.”
Leo’s expression remained unreadable, his predatory gaze locked onto Kid like a wolf deciding whether to pounce.
For now, Kid could only wait, trembling, as he hoped his desperate plea would buy him one more day of life.
