Transcendent Dawn

Chapter 670: Recommendation

69 Black Iron Street.

Joanne was stunned by the lavish spread on the table.

There was soft, delicious white bread, perfectly fried bacon and eggs, and strawberry and blueberry jam.

“You…”

She pointed at Su Lu: “Are you planning for us to eat dirt next time?”

“No… I’ve just come into some money recently, enough to afford a lifestyle upgrade for us.”

Su Lu emerged from the kitchen with a smile, removing his apron.

Every single Lire from the 500 he had was spent on materials. The money he was using now was the ‘contributions’ from the father and son duo, Claude and Rand, unbeknownst to others.

He could afford some semblance of comfort within these means.

“That money…”

Joanne suddenly fell silent, picked up a piece of white bread from the table, and looked at Su Lu with satisfaction, “Morphy… You’ve grown up.”

“Yes, I plan to use the remaining Lire for my graduation project, maybe even go to university. You’ll accompany me when that time comes.”

Seeing Joanne halt mid-speech, Su Lu reassured her, “I will strive for a full scholarship, so don’t worry about the money…”

In reality, Claude’s account still had a large sum of Lire, but that wasn’t something Su Lu could touch.

He could only settle for most of the cash, which was more than enough for a regular person to live on for quite some time.

Moreover, creating a so-called ‘graduation project’ was merely a cover for his frequent purchases of materials.

Truth be told, the Bat Guyver was a design that was leagues ahead of its time. Even if they got a top mechanic, there was no way they could tell what it was from the batches of materials Su Lu was buying.

Still, Su Lu was careful enough do disguise it and prepared another rudimentary jumping model for his graduation project.

“Very well, very well…”

Joanne rubbed her eyes and turned around.

“Well… I’m off now.”

Feeling a bit uncomfortable in his brotherly guise, Su Lu quickly finished his meal and left for school.

Mechanical high school.

The minute he walked into the classroom, an excited George pulled Su Lu aside and whispered, “Have you heard? About what happened on Silver Avenue?”

“You mean…”

Su Lu hadn’t heard but George couldn’t wait to spill the beans, “The Rands were attacked by a criminal, a home invasion gone wrong, the father and son were both killed. How tragic…”

He made faces at Su Lu and nodded towards Ginny as she entered the room, “Let’s have a moment of silence for them…”

“Yes, it’s unexpected, the twist and turn of fate…”

Su Lu looked at Ginny, noticing her red eyes and discernibly low mood.

“And then…”

As soon as Ginny had passed, George continued, “I’ve heard… that Rand’s father, Claude was implicated in a spy case, possibly playing a major role. As his close friend and subordinate, Ginny’s father couldn’t shake off the connection either and is under investigation…”

A spy case was never a standalone, catch one and you’re bound to expose a whole nest.

Thinking of Claude’s network, Su Lu gave a silent prayer for Ginny’s father.

At this point, those big shots were no doubt busy distancing themselves from Claude and were stepping all over his influence.

It would be very difficult, if not impossible, for her father to shake off the connections.

Just then, Su Lu felt a jolt through his body, an inexplicable joy as if a shackle had been cast off.

‘So, is that considered revenge? Okay then… The original host’s obsession with revenge wasn’t that high, I thought he’d only be satisfied when those two were dead…’

Su Lu stretched leisurely, saying to George, “Whatever happened to them, it’s none of my concern. I’m preparing to graduate.”

“Ah, this moment, from the day you betrayed the bad-student brigade, I saw it coming…”

George wore a face of despair, “From today, I’m the only one left to be chastised by the teacher…”

A few days later.

Mechanical high school, at the testing field.

A tall teacher was running and jumping with a mechanical spring device on his leg. He stumbled and fell a few times at first, but once he got the hang of it, he ran faster and jumped higher, even clearing a five-meter fence in the last jump.

“Hmm, just from the aspect of innovation… it’s impeccable!”

A teacher from the assessment panel adjusted his glasses, looking appreciatively at Su Lu, “Though the materials are a bit simplistic, it shows that the production cost is low… an impressive piece of work. I even think it may go into mass production. You know, substituting parts are usually very heavy, a device like this could lighten the load and increase jumping ability, it might be very popular.”

The several teachers all highly regarded it, after a discussion, they declared, “Student Morphy, your examination is passed, you are allowed to graduate!”

“Thank you, teachers.” Su Lu bowed politely in thanks.

“Not just that, we believe you are fully qualified to pursue higher education at the Royal Mechanical University of Silver City.” The first teacher to speak said with a smile.

Silver City is the capital of the Kinsley Kingdom, and it houses many universities. The Royal Mechanical University, however, is the top institute!

“Of course… our recommendation won’t get you directly admitted, it only qualifies you for the entrance exam, and just in time… Mr. James from the Royal University is currently conducting admission in this city.”

A teacher quickly wrote down a recommendation letter and sealed his fire mark on it.

The other members of the evaluation committee did the same, solemnly handing the recommendation letter to Su Lu, “May the light of machinery be with you!”

“May the light of machinery shine forever!”

Su Lu saluted, respectfully accepting the recommendation letter.

After leaving school, he walked around in circles to ensure no one was following him, and then headed to his secret base.

It was an uninhabited forest near the logging site. There, Su Lu had buried his Bat Guyver and most of the previous spoils of war.

“After this period, I should be free of suspicion…”

“Silver City, huh…the capital of a kingdom, the highest university…it’s bound to have what I want.”

Mecha drivers are not weak, but what Su Lu wanted more was the transcendent path of this world.

Perhaps there’s a profession like the [Mechanical Master], that would be the best choice.

“With my experience and knowledge, plus the technology of the Star Devourer Clan of this world, I’m practically a prodigal monster in mechanics… it would be such a waste not to make good use of it.”

Su Lu arrived at a crooked tree, dug up the earth to retrieve his Bat Guyver.

The few mechanical components he got from Claude’s safe were also carefully cleaned and identified one by one.

“Two ‘Energy stones’ and a ‘Neuro linkage component’, quite nice, they can be used to improve the Mech…”
