Oakville Town — Node

Donlow stood guard, her eyes scanning the surroundings with intense vigilance.

She had already suppressed her aura as much as possible and deployed several concealment devices around the node.

Yet despite her efforts, the monsters of Oakville Town seemed to have sensed her presence.

They were closing in.

It wouldn’t be long before the area around the node was completely sealed off.

“Luca, when are you coming back?

If you don’t return soon, the monsters are going to cut us off completely.

We won’t have any way to escape.”

Her voice was low, muttering with tension.

Though she had always trusted Luca implicitly, the mounting pressure in the area was making her nerves fray.

Just then, a sudden pulse of energy erupted from the node.

It spread outward rapidly, like a shockwave tearing through the air.

Donlow instinctively threw up barriers and cloaks to block it,

but the wave still pulsed far beyond her defenses.

Every monster in Oakville Town stirred.

The energy had awakened them completely.

The trees around the node began to shake violently—

a clear sign that hordes of monsters were now rushing toward the node at high speed.

Donlow’s grip tightened on her weapon.

Her hands trembled slightly,

the weight of imminent danger bearing down on her like a physical force.

But even as the threat surged around her, she didn’t retreat.

She had made a promise—to stay near the node until Luca returned.

“No matter what, I will not betray Luca!

Even if it means dying here, I’ll hold this ground until the very last moment!”

She steeled her resolve,

unwilling to risk another misunderstanding like the one before.

She wanted Luca to know—

That out of everyone, she was the one who cared the most about him.

Moments later, the perimeter defenses around the node collapsed completely.

A massive swarm of monsters surged toward the node.

Oddly, they didn’t seem focused on Donlow herself.

Their intent was clearly fixed on breaching the node.

Donlow noticed the shift immediately.

But it didn’t change her course of action.

She couldn’t allow them to enter—

Their interference might jeopardize Luca’s trial.

With a shout, she raised her weapon and launched into the horde,

cutting down monsters in a desperate frenzy.

Her strikes were fierce and unrelenting—

And soon, the monsters responded in kind.

They turned their focus to her.

Now, the full weight of the onslaught bore down on Donlow alone.

“You’ll have to step over my corpse if you want to enter the node!” Donlow snarled viciously.

The monsters didn’t hesitate for even a second.

As if guided by some invisible command, they all lunged at her simultaneously.

Though Donlow had braced herself for a brutal fight,

the overwhelming number of enemies was simply too much for her to handle.

Her weapon was struck from her hands, flying through the air—

and moments later, she herself was slammed to the ground by the weight of several monsters.

Despair crept in.

Surrounded, unarmed, and outnumbered,

she realized she had no way to keep resisting.

“I fought for you until my very last breath… I’m the one who truly cares about you the most…”

Believing her end had come, Donlow whispered the words she had longed for Luca to hear.

One of the monsters lunged forward, its gaping jaws descending toward her.

And then—

In that final, desperate moment,

a brilliant white light suddenly burst forth from the node.

The beam of light incinerated every monster surrounding Donlow,

reducing them to nothing but ash in an instant.

“Just in time! Grab your weapon—

we need to get out of here.”

Luca’s voice rang out across the clearing.

The moment she heard it,

Donlow’s face lit up with a radiant smile,

and tears streamed down her cheeks, unable to hold back the overwhelming emotion.

“I know you have a lot you want to say,”

Luca said solemnly as he looked at her,

“but right now, getting back to the refuge is what matters most.”

He could see how shaken she was,

but this wasn’t the time to comfort her.

Donlow nodded firmly.

The two of them turned and dashed away from Oakville Town at full speed.

Along the way, Luca wiped out the majority of the monsters in their path—

and in doing so, pushed his level dangerously close to 71.

After completing the trial task,

his level cap had been unlocked.

He had now undergone his second profession awakening.

Though he still didn’t know what new class he had obtained,

at the very least, he could now continue leveling up again.

Half an hour later, the two finally arrived at the entrance to the refuge.

There, waiting for them, was Fuzzsir.

“Where the hell have you two been?” Fuzzsir asked anxiously.

He could already tell from Donlow’s condition that something was seriously wrong,

which made him all the more concerned about what the two of them had been doing.

“Let’s head back to the conference room before we talk,” Luca said, lowering his voice.

“There are too many eyes and ears out here. Anything we say in public is bound to leak.”

Though his strength had increased significantly since before, Luca still chose caution.

He had far too many enemies—

and those enemies were everywhere.

That meant every move he made had to be precise, calculated, and carefully guarded.

Fuzzsir immediately picked up on Luca’s intention.

“Alright, let’s get to the conference room—now.”

The three of them slipped away from the crowd and returned to the secure space.

By then, Donlow had finally composed herself.

A faint blush had returned to her cheeks, giving her a slightly flushed look.

This change in demeanor left both Luca and Fuzzsir puzzled.

Neither of them could quite understand why she looked like that.

Of course, Donlow had no intention of explaining.

Her reaction was purely from embarrassment—

She realized that her behavior back in Oakville Town may have been a little… dramatic.

She shouldn’t have acted like it was some tearful final farewell.

Inside the conference room, Luca spoke directly and without evasion.

“Donlow and I went to Oakville Town.

There’s a node there. I used it to enter the Eternal World and completed my second profession awakening.”

Fuzzsir was visibly stunned.

He gave Luca a once-over, examining him closely.

“You really completed your second awakening?

Why do you still seem exactly the same to me?”

“What kind of difference were you expecting?” Luca replied with a calm smile.

“I can level up again, and I’ve obtained a new profession. That’s all that matters.”

His tone was casual, even lighthearted—

which only made both Donlow and Fuzzsir think more highly of him.

To them, it showed that Luca didn’t obsess over status or milestones.

But for Luca himself, the awakening was just another checkpoint on his journey.

A necessary step in the process of becoming stronger.

Once you reached a certain level, awakening was simply proof that you were capable of progressing further.

His nonchalant response left an even deeper impression on the two of them.

“So,” Donlow asked, curious, “what’s your new profession?”

“I haven’t looked yet,” Luca admitted.

“After completing the trial, I rushed back to get you out of danger.

But since you brought it up—guess now’s the perfect time to check.”

Luca spoke casually,

his tone light as he opened his status interface.

A flood of information appeared before him.

Beyond the familiar details—his level and base attributes—

what stood out most was the newly unlocked profession from his second awakening:

[Copy Master]

[Copy Master can duplicate anything it has seen—magical items, ordinary objects, and even the skills used by monsters or other living beings.

Each item or skill can only be copied once and used once.

The number of copies the Copy Master can store is limited,

but this capacity increases with level.]

[Remaining Copy Slots: 5]

Luca hadn’t expected this.

To receive Copy Master as his new class—it was completely unexpected.

It was a stark contrast to his previous class, Dreamweaver.

Dreamweaver’s abilities didn’t have an exceptionally high ceiling,

but they were consistent, dependable.

No matter what kind of enemy he faced, dream-based skills always had some utility.

Copy Master, however, was a high-risk, high-reward profession.

Its ceiling was massive—but its floor was equally low.

If he managed to copy powerful skills or rare magical artifacts,

he’d become nearly unstoppable in battle.

But finding such high-tier abilities and items was rare.

And even when they did appear, they were often surrounded by danger—

encounters that put the user’s life on the line.

In short, for a Copy Master to become powerful,

they had to gamble constantly and survive encounters few others could.

As Luca processed all this,

Donlow and Fuzzsir observed him in silence.

Seeing his furrowed brow and deep contemplation,

they both assumed the same thing—

that Luca wasn’t too thrilled with the profession he’d been given.

A few minutes later, Luca exhaled slowly and finally spoke:

“My new profession is Copy Master.

And at my current level, I only have five copy slots.”

The moment those words left his mouth,

both Donlow and Fuzzsir understood exactly why he looked so conflicted.

Copy Master didn’t sound like a great fit for someone like Luca—at least not at first glance.

“I believe you’ll be able to unlock the full potential of a Copy Master,”

Donlow said gently, her voice laced with encouragement.

Luca nodded slightly but said nothing more.

The room fell into a brief silence,

a faint weight hanging in the air.

Sensing the tension,

Fuzzsir suddenly remembered there were other matters that needed to be addressed.

He couldn’t afford to stay quiet any longer.

“Imperial Capital just sent us a new intel report—according to it, another monster horde is about to appear!

We have to prepare for a full-scale assault!”

As Fuzzsir spoke, he handed the report over to both Donlow and Luca.

The two of them exchanged puzzled looks.

“Why is another monster horde showing up so soon?” Donlow asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

“Didn’t we already deal a serious blow to both Zenobia and Senator Devitt during the battle at Lakeside City?

They shouldn’t be capable of launching another wave so soon… right?”

Luca, however, replied without hesitation.

“The monster horde must’ve been launched by someone else.”
